When SyFy published an article in 2017 stating women loved horror, just as much as men, and that historically “horror has offered as much to women as a creative outlet” they weren’t wrong.
Dark Whispers Volume 1 is Australia’s first women’s horror anthology brought to you by 11 female filmmakers from across Australia including Angie Black, Briony Kidd, Isabel Peppard, Janine Hewitt, Jub Clerc, Kaitlin Tinker, Katrina Irawati Graham, Lucy Gouldthorpe, Madeleine Purdy, Marion Pilowsky and Megan Riakos.
Starring Andrea Demetriades, Asher Keddie and Anthony LaPaglia to name but a few, the feature film World Premiered at Cinefest Oz and follows Clara a young woman who inherits her mother’s Book of Dark Whispers only to discover 10 disturbing tales within its pages. Each chapter reveals a new facet of the twisted human psyche... or the not-so-human, as the case may be. From the horror of grief to a share-house living disaster, from existential dread to right-swiping vampires, there’s something for all tastes; as long as those tastes are twisted.
